The reason why I started this blog is so I can share my knowledge about aviation.  I’m currently working as a ground school instructor at a summer camp teaching young children how to prepare for their FAA written knowledge exam.  It’s a fun but challenging job… one that I love more than anything else.  This is my second year of teaching and I’m currently working on getting my certified ground instructor rating.  I firmly believe that the experiences I learn here while teaching in a classroom environment will help me become a far better instructor than I could ever possibly be without this position.

Becoming an aviation educator is extremely difficult. It’s tough to learn all new things about aviation. The thing I find most difficult about it is trying to find ways to teach concepts to students who have little or no time in an actual airplane. As you can imagine, this is extremely tough. However I have a lot of people who are very willing to help me and have made this program become a success.

I suppose I should tell you a little bit about myself. I’ve been flying for eight years and earned my private pilot’s license in December 2009. I have around 150 hours of total flight time in various different airplanes ranging from a 1947 Piper Super Cruiser to a Piper Warrior (and almost everything in between). I always thought I wanted to be a flight instructor. This is mainly because my first flight instructor, Doug Stewart, had an almost brilliant way of helping a 12-year-old understand airplanes. Instead of me asking him if I could be his student, he asked me if he could be my instructor.

Thus began my love affair with flying.  Since I started my skyward journey I’ve met a ton of great people and have traveled to many spectacular places (I flew to Oshkosh when I was 14 years old).  Now I’m on to a new chapter in life and I want to pursue my flight instructor rating and try to give back to aviation half as much as what aviation has given to me.  I would like to use this blog as a haven for my thoughts on aviation safety, news, events, and other things which might be beneficial to folks who are reading this. Maybe I’ll be lucky enough to teach you something you didn’t know!  One of the things I really want to do is encourage feedback and comments so we as a group can discuss whatever it is we would like.

One thing that I want to stress to my readers is that this blog is extremely new and likely won’t be up to speed for quite some time.  I have barely enough time to study for my ground instructor tests as it is. However, I’ll do my best to hopefully turn this into something awesome. I encourage you to subscribe to this blog so you stay up-to-date and don’t waste time checking back in case I haven’t updated it.

Thank you for visiting and fly safely!
